Design Tips for your laundry room storage built-in unit

A laundry room shouldn't be a dumping ground.  There are many design options that are available to you, when designing your storage system for your laundry room.

With the following design ideas in mind, you will create a space that is bright, clean and well organized.

  • Shelves can be used to store your towels and linens and have them easily accessible for when you need them, as well as hold soaps and fabric softeners.
  • Fold-out ironing boards are back in style! Incorporating a fold-out ironing board into your design will fold neatly up and out of the way when it's not in use.  You can opt to reserve a space in your design for an iron and ironing board holder, rather than a fold-out.    Either  one of these two options will help keep them off the floor.
  • Baskets are a great way to neatly store laundry items. Consider large wire hamper baskets with liners to help sort your coloured clothes from whites.
  • Hanging rods in your design will allow you to hang your clothes from the dryer on a rod to keep them from wrinkling. If  your laundry sink is against a wall, consider placing a hanging rod over the sink for drip drying your delicates.  It can be tucked behind a valance that is integrated into the design of your unit.
  • Cabinets or a pantry can be incorporated into your built-in system, for storing cleaning supplies and other items you wish to keep out of view. A laundry pantry is a great space to install a pull out hamper drawer, to store dirty clothes until laundry day.
  • An Island can be added to the design, if space allows. Not only is it a valuable tool when it comes to sorting or folding clothes, but the additional storage space it provides is extremely useful.
  • LED Track Lighting is a great alternative to florescent fixtures. It will help to create a bright environment for you to sort or fold clothes.
  • A solid wood door that separates the laundry room from the rest of the house will help reduce sound.  Fortunately, newer washer and dryer models are being designed with sound control in mind.
